GUIDES / COMPLIANCE
Is AI video content compliant for insurance agents?
AI-made video can be compliant for life insurance agents, as long as a licensed agent reviews it before posting and it follows the same advertising rules as any other ad. Life insurance advertising is regulated by each state, and many carriers and agencies have their own approval steps. The tool doesn’t change the rules. The message does.
Quick note: this is general information from a former agent, not legal advice. Your state insurance department, carrier and agency have the final word.
Who sets the rules?
- Your state. Each state regulates insurance advertising. Many states base their rules on the NAIC’s model regulation for life insurance and annuity advertising.
- Your carriers. Many carriers require you to submit ads, or anything that names their products, for approval first.
- Your agency or IMO. Many have their own social media policies and review steps.
- Variable products. If you’re securities licensed and talk about variable products, broker-dealer and FINRA rules may apply too.
What usually gets agents in trouble
- Promising prices or approval (“$20 a month, guaranteed!”).
- Misleading comparisons or calling a product something it isn’t.
- Naming a carrier or product without permission.
- Using real client stories or faces without written consent.
- Leaving out who you are. Many states and carriers expect your name, and sometimes your license info, on ads.
A simple 5-step check before you post
- Read the script out loud. Is every claim true and clear?
- Remove specific prices, guarantees and carrier names unless approved.
- Add any disclosures your carrier or agency requires.
- Submit it for approval if your carrier or agency asks for that.
- Keep a copy of the final video and approval with the date.
How TaylorMade AI handles it
Every script comes to you before we make the video, and every video comes to you before it goes live. You check the message, the product details and any required disclosures. We keep videos focused on education, relatable stories and your personal brand, not prices or promises.
Quick answers
Do I have to say a video was made with AI?
Rules are changing fast, and some platforms label AI content. If an AI character could be mistaken for a real person or a real client, be clear that it’s fictional. Check your platform and carrier rules.
Can I use AI to show a fake client testimonial?
No. Don’t present invented people as real clients. That’s misleading in any industry, and especially in insurance.
Who is responsible if a video breaks the rules?
The licensed agent who posts it. That’s why you review and approve every video first.
